Professor Tahmina Akhtar

Former Director- Institute of Social welfare and Research University of Dhaka

Professor Tahmina Akhtar is a renowned academician and researcher with over 30 years of experience in social work and development. A former UCEP Board of Governors member (2023-2024), she is currently a Professor and former Director at ISWR, University of Dhaka.
She has led major national projects, including the Coastal Climate Resilient Infrastructure Project (CCRIP) and Padma Bridge impact studies, and has authored 50+ research papers in leading journals. She received a fellowship in Mental Health and Counseling from the University of Birmingham, UK.
A pioneer in Clinical Social Work in Bangladesh, she founded the Master’s Program in Clinical Social Work at ISWR, DU and serves as Secretary-General of BCSWE and President of BCSWA. Her contributions have significantly shaped social work education and practice in Bangladesh.
