Mr. M. R. Siddiqi was the first elected Chairperson of UCEP Bangladesh, serving from May 1988 to October 1990, following the passing of its founder, Mr. Lindsay Allan Cheyne. Demonstrating his strong commitment to the organization, he personally financed its operations for the first two months.
A distinguished statesman, Mr. Siddiqi held key positions as a Member of Parliament, industrialist, ambassador, and chartered accountant. In 1972, he was appointed as the Minister of Commerce and Foreign Trade in the Government of Bangladesh, where he played a pivotal role in shaping the country’s trade and economic policies.
