Rear Admiral Sultan Ahmed (Retd.) served as the Chairperson of UCEP Bangladesh during two terms: May 1999 – December 2001 and January 2003 – December 2004.

As a distinguished naval officer, he held the position of Chief of Naval Staff (CNS) of the Bangladesh Navy from August 6, 1984, to August 14, 1990. Prior to this, he served as a gunnery officer in the Pakistan Navy and specialized in submarine warfare between 1963 and 1968.

In addition to his military career, Rear Admiral Ahmed held key governmental positions, serving as the Minister for Communication and Shipping. He was also elected as a Member of Parliament from Rajshahi. Furthermore, he contributed to civic leadership as the President of the Chittagong Boat Club.
