A Journey of Hope, Struggle, and Acceptance: Sadek Ahmed’s Story

In the quiet village of Kohaigor, nestled in the heart of Sylhet, a child named Sadek Ahmed was born into a world that struggled to see him for who he truly was. Though raised in a loving family, their affection was often overshadowed by confusion and denial—society’s harsh lens did not allow space for a transgender identity to exist without judgment.

From a young age, Sadek felt different. Every glance, every whispered word, every act of exclusion carved deep wounds into his soul. Schoolyard taunts turned into societal silence. The person he was becoming had no space to bloom—only to hide, to survive.

But fate has a way of planting light even in the darkest corners.

In 2024, Sadek found a lifeline at UCEP Hafiz Mazumder Sylhet TVET Institute, a place that became more than just a training centre—it became his sanctuary. The Social Inclusion Team welcomed him not with questions or conditions, but with respect. For the first time, Sadek’s identity was not a burden—it was simply human.

He chose to train in Electrical Installation and Maintenance. With every switch wired and every circuit completed, he wasn’t just gaining technical skills—he was rebuilding his sense of worth, piece by piece. His instructors didn’t just teach—they believed in him. His peers didn’t just study—they stood beside him.

Through UCEP’s Job Placement support, Sadek began working at Pran Group. For most, it was just a job. For him, it was proof that he mattered—that he could contribute, earn, and stand tall. But his journey didn’t stop there.

With a heart full of purpose and eyes set on change, Sadek became the Divisional Coordinator of Bondhu Welfare Society. Today, he advocates for transgender rights in education, healthcare, and employment. He walks into spaces once closed to people like him—and holds the door open for others to follow.

He now earns 25,000 BDT monthly, not just sustaining himself, but proudly supporting his family. The same family that once struggled to understand him now prays for his safety and cheers for his success.

Sadek’s journey is not just a story—it’s a testament to what happens when inclusion meets opportunity. It’s about the raw courage of living one’s truth in a world that often punishes it. It is the kind of story that humbles us, challenges us, and calls us to be better—for every Sadek who still waits to be seen.

As Sadek often says, “I didn’t need the world to change overnight. I just needed someone to believe that I belonged in it.”

Skills play a significant role to build a world for unlock not just jobs—but dignity, identity, and hope.
