Dhaka, 25 November 2024: UCEP Bangladesh marked the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women today, 25 November 2024, through a special event at its Head Office, Dhaka. The organization reaffirmed its commitment to ending violence against women and ensuring gender equality in the workplace by organizing the Job Fair 2024.
The event was graced by the presence of Mr. Md. Rezaul Maksud Jahedi, Secretary, Ministry of Youth and Sports, as the Chief Guest. Mr. Joe McIntosh, First Secretary, Development (Education and Skills) at the Canadian High Commission, attended as the Guest of Honor. The program was presided over by Dr. Md. Abdul Karim, Executive Director of UCEP Bangladesh.
In his address, the Chief Guest remarked, “Awareness campaigns alone are not enough to prevent violence against women. We must establish strong social values and ensure collaborative efforts to achieve this goal.” He lauded UCEP Bangladesh’s effective implementation of its Safeguarding Policy to ensure safety and welfare for women in the workplace.
Dr. Md. Abdul Karim, Executive Director of UCEP Bangladesh, emphasized, “Violence against women is a global issue. Addressing this challenge requires unified efforts from all. Empowering women through education and employment is the sustainable solution to this crisis.”
Other speakers at the event emphasized the importance of collective efforts to prevent violence against women. They stated, “Protecting women’s rights and building a violence-free society requires not just legislation but also a shift in societal attitudes.”
The event featured cultural performances by UCEP Bangladesh’s students, and also showcased the inspiring stories of women who successfully overcame challenges related to violence, that conveyed messages of women’s empowerment and the importance of combating violence against women.
