Honoring the Legacy of Late Mr. M. R. Siddiqi, UCEP Bangladesh’s First Chairperson

UCEP Bangladesh pays tribute to the remarkable legacy of late Mr. M. R. Siddiqi, who was elected as the first Chairperson following the sudden passing of Mr. Lindsay Allan Cheyne, founder of UCEP Bangladesh. Serving from May 1988 to October 1990, Mr. Siddiqi played an important role in ensuring the continuity and sustainability of UCEP Bangladesh during a critical transitional period. His unwavering commitment to the organization was exemplified by his selfless act of personally covering UCEP’s expenses for the first two months of his tenure.

Beyond his leadership at UCEP, Mr. Siddiqi was an influential figure in Bangladesh’s political and economic landscape. He served as a Member of Parliament, a reputed industrialist, a former Ambassador, and a Chartered Accountant. In 1972, he was appointed Minister of Commerce and Foreign Trade, played a key role in shaping the country’s economic policies during its formative years.

UCEP Bangladesh remains profoundly grateful for Mr. Siddiqi’s invaluable leadership and dedication, which laid the foundation for the organization’s ongoing efforts to empower underprivileged youth through skills development and education. His vision and contributions continue to inspire future generations.

Mr. M. R. Siddiqi passed away on 6 February 1992, leaving behind a legacy of service, integrity, and commitment to national development.
